The Dove

Block Number: 7

"Dove In The Window"
Quilt Block
This quilt block can be found on Bethel United Methodist Church, which sits at the intersection of Roy Moore Road and Crooked Creek in Old Fort, NC.

Pioneering families in the Crooked Creek section of McDowell County founded the church in 1835. A storm severely damaged the original structure, and 99 years later the present day brick sanctuary was built. This block was installed on the south-facing wall on October 2, 2009 having been chosen by the ladies of the church.

The quilt block depicts four doves converging from four directions, with three doves in graduated shades of blue, and a white dove descending from above into a splash of golden sunlight onto a background of darker blue.
