Cathedral Window

Block Number: 35

CATHEDRAL WINDOW

On Saturday morning, May 29, 2010, the latest quilt block, No. 35, on the McDowell Quilt Trail was installed at the home of Pat and Joe Morris on Stacy Hill Road. Pat said she has often commented on the beautiful blocks going up in our area, and admired their colorful and interesting patterns. She was thrilled when her three daughters surprised her on Mother’s Day with a gift certificate from MACA for a 3x3 quilt block. It was the perfect gift and something she will, as well as those passing by can, appreciate every day.

A passion for stained glass partially determined her choice of the “Cathedral Window” pattern. The colors are vivid in shades of yellow, blue and maroon. The blocks form a white cross within a blue cross pattern, with a light blue window box in the hub. Each of the four blocks is capped in black at the corners joined by maroon columns, framing the stunning stained glass appearance.

After the installation by Mike Lucas and Richard Turner, Pat was presented with a framed Certificate of Authenticity from Jill Lucas, chairperson of the McDowell Quilt Trail, and was very excited to learn that she is the 35th host to display a quilt block locally.
