Little Dutch Girl

Block Number: 30

Ray and Pat Arrowood of Brackett Town are the hosts of “Little Dutch Girl”. Installed on April 23, 2010, this 3x3 block hangs on the east-facing wall of Ray and Pat’s workshop.

Pat chose the Little Dutch Girl quilt pattern to honor her mother, Zonia Allison. This particular pattern was one of the first quilts her mother made. “It is an appliqué pattern,” says Pat. “Most ladies made at least one, but using the piecing method for making the quilt tops is more productive.”

Pat’s memory of the quilting bees that were held at her home in Dysartsville in the late fifties is a story of mountain culture to which many can relate, and those who can’t, may find it interesting.
